Ask Your State Attorney General To Investigate Skins

Last night the MTV television network aired the third episode of Skins.

Today we urgently call on you to contact your state Attorney General and ask him or her to investigate whether MTV or your local cable/satellite provider has violated child pornography or exploitation laws in your state.

If you’ve been following this issue closely, you will recall that on January 19th, the New York Times reported that executives at Viacom conducted an emergency meeting because they became concerned that “some scenes from the provocative new show Skins may violate federal child pornography statutes” by exhibiting “visual depictions of a minor [under 18-years-old] engaged in sexually explicit conduct.”  Most of the cast of Skins are between the ages 15 and 19.

In particular, Viacom executives were concerned about last night’s episode, in which a character played by a 17-year-old actor (according to the Times) is shown naked from behind running down the street.

The PTC has already called on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and the House and Senate Judiciary committees to launch a full investigation.  But that’s not the end of the story.  In addition to the possible violation of Federal law, MTV also may have violated state and local laws, too.

And your cable or satellite provider may also have violated the law by knowingly distributing it.

The PTC has been working directly with local law enforcement authorities on this matter, but we desperately need your help, too.  That’s why we’re asking you to take action now by contacting your state Attorney General’s office and demanding a thorough investigation to determine if MTV, its parent corporation Viacom, and your cable/satellite provider may have broken local child pornography or child endangerment laws.

Please, take a moment RIGHT NOW to write to your state Attorney General and demand a full investigation.

And please consider making a donation in any amount to support the PTC’s work. The PTC has undertaken a massive communication effort regarding this program, and we need your financial assistance to maintain the growing national outcry against it.

PLEASE contact your state Attorney General and ask him or her to investigate whether Skins has violated any local child pornography or child exploitation laws.

And PLEASE consider helping the PTC to continue its work with a tax-deductible donation.  You can give safely and securely by clicking here.

With urgent thanks,

Your Friends at the parents Television Council
