With this issue of GRAND we celebrate mothers in May and fathers in June. As a new grandparent, I am still marveling at being the mom of a mom! It’s a complicated new relationship that at nine months I’m still learning to navigate.
Who better to feature on our cover than Arthur and Carol Kornhaber? Arthur, an MD, is the founder of the Foundation for Grandparenting. He is an authority on the grandparent relationship. Carol created and produces The Nanas and the Papas, a musical revue depicting modern grandparenting.
In this issue is an excerpt from an important book, So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood and What Parents Can Do to Protect their Kids. I’m grateful that I raised my kids in a simpler time — no cell phones, internet access or social media. I find young nieces and nephews on Facebook and am perplexed at their knowledge of things beyond their years. We should all be part of the team for keeping our kids safe and their behavior appropriate.
For grandparents who heartbreakingly have lost access to a grandchild, we have a downloadable list of resources that we hope will help.
We’ve been enjoying our readers’ contributions to “Memories of My Grandparents” sponsored by sponsored by My Well-Being Powered by HUMANA, and we invite you to send in yours.
Here’s to moms & dads & grands!
