A Boomer Holiday Ditty

Looks like your grandkids have been waxing poetic about the holidays — and you. Who knew they could be so sentimental?

Happy Holidays to Our Groovy Grands

Oh, how we love the holidays,

And one big reason why —

We go to Gramps and Gran’s house,

Where fun’s in big supply.

What makes them so different

From grandparents of yore?

Gran and Gramps are boomers,

So they’re way cool to the core.

Gran was once a flower child,

And Gramps wore tie-dyed shirts.

He was born to be so wild;

Gran says she tamed him first.

They taught us how to do the Twist

And how to macramé.

We’re not quite sure where Woodstock is,

But we have to go someday.

Gramps and Gran say groovy things

Like neato and far out.

They aren’t quite so young these days,

But they know what it’s all about.

It isn’t just the gifts they buy

Or letting us make a mess,

But Mom always says no, no, no,

While Gran says yes, yes, yes.

Plus, they’ve got the greatest

DVDs you’ve ever seen,

Like Toy Story 1, 2, 3

And Yellow Submarine.

Gran will decorate the house

And bake some scrumptious pies.

Gramps will light the fire

That will glow before our eyes.

So we’ll fly, we’ll take the train,

Or we’ll get Dad to drive

’Cause a Gran- and Gramp-less holiday

Would make us feel deprived.

Surely we’re the luckiest of

Grandkids in all the land,

To celebrate the holidays

With our very own boomer grands.
