Today, most parents work and often, for lack of time and energy, bring home prepared foods. However, even the highest-quality take-out foods can’t beat a home-cooked meal prepared by a loving family member-and even if it is not perfect, any meal prepared by one of the children is special and can bring joy to every member of the family.
Teaching the “personal chef” style of cooking helps our grandchildren develop valuable skills: planning ahead, problem-solving, math-not to mention giving us a purposeful reason to spend more time with them! Also, helping them to contribute to their household increases feelings of self-respect (and considerably lowers stress levels for the parents).
