Imaginative and fun for all ages, by Lu B Lu (Birmingham UK), Amazon.com

This is a lovely collection of stories that myself and my 4 and 7 year olds have adored. Some stories are long and we read a chapter or two a night. Others are just right for a 10-15 minute bedtime story. They are funny and appealing to younger children and also have plenty of things to think about and discuss with older children.

There’s nothing violent or upsetting but plenty to make you think and learn about while growing up: choices, truth telling, bullying, friendship, kindness and much much more. A pleasure to share in our family and I would recommend to others unreservedly.

Not only is this book about enjoyment but hidden within the enchanting and mystical tales are meanings that educate children on the importance of honesty, the perils endured in life and the friendships formed on each magical journey.

Excerpt

“Look Colin,” said Gordon, “the sun’s coming out, perhaps if we wait a while it might dry up the mud.”

“I don’t think we can wait that long,” answered Colin.

He began to move along the pond’s edge towards Gordon when suddenly he found that he couldn’t move at all. Just then Gordon began to sink in the soft mud.

“Hey Colin, are you growing taller, or am I …” Gordon paused for a second, “or am I sinking?”

“Of course I’m not getting taller,” shouted Colin.

“Then I’m sinking,” shouted back Gordon.

Colin could see that Gordon was sinking fast but he could do nothing about it. He couldn’t move, his foot had got wedged between two large boulders and there was no way of freeing himself.

“Colin, help me, Colin I’m sinking,” shouted Gordon from across the pond.

“I can’t, I’m stuck,” yelled back Colin.

Gordon could hear the footsteps getting closer and closer.

“Colin, it’s coming,” again he shouted over as he began to panic.

“Gordon, I don’t know what to do, I’m all out of ideas.”

Colin felt so helpless as he desperately tried to free his foot whilst watching his best friend disappear beneath the thick dark mud as a dark shadowy figure swept across the pond.
