MTV’s RJ Berger Heaps Crude Sex Talk On Kids

Episode Summary

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT

In the wake of Skins, MTV’s The Hard Times of RJ Berger continues the network’s obsession with promoting teenage sex – in the crudest way possible. But while Skins ignominiously crashed and burned, with literally dozens of sponsors dropping off the show (at a cost to the network – and it’s investors – of untold millions of dollars), MTV’s management apparently finds a program premised on the size of a teenage boy’s sex organ to be worthy of a second season, thus making the Monday, April 25th episode of the program (10:00 p.m. ET) the Worst Cable TV Show of the Week.

After deflowering the nymphomanical Lily at the conclusion of last season (as the girl lay helpless and dying in a hospital bed), the current year sees RJ ignoring Lily to pursue his “dream girl,” Jenny. Throughout bouts of drug use,  the well-meaning interference of RJ’s mother (who entered RJ’s room as he and Jenny were necking, and thoughtfully undid the girl’s bra and urged her son to fondle Jenny’s exposed breasts) and other mishaps, the two have not yet had sex.

When Jenny learns that RJ has lied about being a virgin, their relationship cools – their relationship, but not their lust for one another. As they try out for the roles of Romeo and Juliet in the school play, the two horny teens think:

Berger:  “She doth make my boner take flight/for I had never seen such boobies ’til tonight.”

Jenny: “Alas sweet Romeo, for your massive sword I’ll wait.”

Berger: “I am fortune’s fool/Why did I wait to slay her with my tool?”

Beyond making the Bard spin in his grave, the writers of this dreck also serve up heaping portions of other teenage sex. Katie, the leader of a therapy group for teenagers dealing with sexual problems “confesses,”  “I willingly gave my body up to multiple partners. Sometimes two, six, eight at a time,” whereupon RJ’s noxious friend Miles exults, “She’s a nympho, dude. She bones the whole league. I just gotta dangle a little whang in her face and she’ll be right back to her old gangbanging ways…I’m gonna connect intimately all right. With her butt!”

This vomitous garbage is somehow made even worse when one considers that unlike Skins – which at least solicited comments on its dialogue from genuine teens – The Hard Times of RJ Berger is written by grown men and women, who are projecting their own perverted fantasies, and putting their own disgusting words and depraved thoughts, into the mouths of underage children – both the characters on the show, and those of the youngsters watching it. If anyone wonders where the current vogue for sexualizing teens and children originated, MTV clearly deserves to be suspect #1.

For using children as as the subject – and the audience – for sleazy sexual content, The Hard Times of RJ Berger is the Worst Cable TV Show of the Week
