Sex in Media Contributes to Teen Exploitation

Teenage prostitution is on the rise…and experts say increased media portrayals of girls as sex objects are partly to blame. In its investigative news story “Stones in the Backpack,” NBC affiliate KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska, referred to the PTC’s work in its exposé of the effects of sexualization on teens. Tragically, NBC is demanding that all its affiliates air The Playboy Club this fall. Thus, the same station that has documented the prostitution of young girls is being required by its network to air a drama which glamorizes sex clubs that treat women like objects.
