By now nearly every grandparent in America has at least heard the term “sexting,” the practice of sending sexually provocative text messages or even pictures by cell phone.
It’s a problem every parent needs to know about because the consequences for the children involved can be life-changing. Once sent, the racy pictures often take on a life of their own, being sent from phone to phone, resulting in humiliation, taunting or cyber-bullying from peers, and even possible criminal charges for students who send or receive the images.
Now, with video cameras built in to many newer cell phones and smart phones, sexting has evolved beyond a provocative photo or text message, and increasingly involves x-rated videos. ► More
