“Things to do now that you’re a grandparent” is a fun little book by Amy Goyer that packs a big punch. Every page practically is a gold mine of information and fun creative things to do with your grandkids. The fact that the book itself is a little book (4 ¾” x 6 ½ ) means you can slid it into your purse or portfolio to have handy whenever you are planning some time to be with your g-kids.
For most grandparents, news of a grandchild’s impending arrival will send us into a dizzying array of emotions. Like other major events in our lives, no single emotion fits the bill. How could it? The birth of a grandchild signals the start of a new stage of our lives—a new beginning. There are so many different ways to be involved in our grandchildren’s lives, and it is up to us to choose the ones we are most comfortable with. Grandparents today are very different from grandparents of only a generation ago; we are generally healthier, busier, and more likely to still be working when our first grandchild arrives. As a result, our role as grandparent can vary greatly. The joys of grandparenting are available to all. Things to do now that you’re a Grandparent provides the newly appointed grandparent with 600 ingenious, fun, and creative ideas to explore.
Along with clever and creative things to do, Ms. Goyer also shares her words of wisdom for grandparents. One of my favorites is this:
“The more time you spend with your grandchildren—whether as a primary caregiver or child care provider—the more you will play a role in their lives. Your influence is strong, so always be on your best behavior.”
