Wake-Up Call for Grandparents!

What motivated Steve and Missy Deer to lose more than 200 pounds? “We did it for our grandchild so we could be in her life as long as possible….”

Wake-up calls come in many forms. Ours came in a tiny pink bundle of pure joy: our granddaughter, Eliza Rose.

When Eliza was born, we were very young grandparents. We should have been thinking of all the things we could do with her, such as hiking in the nearby Smoky Mountains. However, we were so unhealthy that we could not even get up from the sofa without a struggle.

We were obese. Bound by food addictions. Trapped in bodies that were quickly losing any youthful energy, and giving way to diseases brought on by our ever-increasing weight.

Then along came a tiny baby girl who stole our hearts and made us realize it was time to get healthy. We suddenly had a reason to change our lives. But we had to face our foe: food addiction. We needed help.

We had tried every diet and fad in an attempt to remedy our obesity; however, nothing worked. Our doctor had encouraged us for years to get healthy. He recommended a program, and with the Lord’s help, it worked! Along with the plan, we changed our lifestyle and our viewpoints about food.

It has been almost two years, and we are healthier than ever. To date, we have lost 200 pounds together. We are never going back, and will never take our healthy relationship with our granddaughter for granted. We have been given a new lease on life, and we plan on using it as active grandparents. Thank you, Eliza Rose.
