By Georgia Witkin, Ph.D. New American Library, $15. Available at Amazon and other book vendors.

We at GRAND Magazine have read just about every book that’s been published on grandparenting, and this one is right up there with the best. Georgia Witkin (psychiatry professor, therapist and grandparent) covers topics of interest for first-time and veteran grands, from picking our grandparent name and babysitting to multigenerational living. There’s advice on some not-so-fun topics as well, such as why we shouldn’t tell white lies to our g’kids, best practices for MIL (mothers-in-law) and what not to do when parents divorce. On the lighter side, one of our favorite ideas is the Birthday Box, a clever and memorable way to celebrate our grandkids’ birthdays. GRAND recommends this book for its great ideas on connecting with our grandkids (online and off), contributing to their emotional development, boosting their IQ, and much more.
