Grandfamilies State Law & Policy Resource Center

The Grandfamilies State Law and Policy Resource Center is a collaboration of Casey Family Programs, the ABA Center on Children and the Law, and Generations United. This national legal resource center was created to educate individuals about state laws and legislation in support of Grandfamilies and to assist interested state legislators, advocates, caregivers, attorneys, and other policymakers in exploring policy options to support relatives and the children in their care both within and outside the child welfare system

This web site provides an easy-to-use searchable database of laws and legislation that affect Grandfamilies who care for children. The database allows for a quick search of the laws and legislation that address common legal questions surrounding relative caregiving.

Expanded Database

Database topics include: subsidized guardianship, adoption, care and custody, housing,, kinship navigator programs, financial assistance, relative foster care, national family caregivers support program, education

Additionally, each topic is thoroughly analyzed and is accompanied by a story to illustrate key concepts, and a list of related resources to learn more. In the future, the site will expand to include state policies, regulations, and best practices. Technical assistance and training are available.
