Fall Forward

The casual days of summer are winding down and the beauty of fall is upon us. I have always loved that “back to school” feeling of September where the challenges feel new, outcomes are yet to be written, and order resumes.

At GRAND we are celebrating our 8th Anniversary Edition featuring the inspirational rags-to-riches story of John Paul DeJoria. From sleeping in his car to founding Paul Mitchell Systems and Patrón Spirits, DeJoria has stayed true to his values. Read how this big, blended family works together to give back to the world.

Don’t miss the final installment of So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood and What Parents [and Grandparents] Can Do to Protect their Kids. It is so important for us to understand the pressures our grandchildren are experiencing. If you find this book helpful, check out GRAND’s 2012 Awards for Best Grandparenting Books to find your next read!

The reigning queen of entertaining and homekeeping, Martha Stewart, is honored in this issue as 2012’s Sexiest Celebrity Grandparent. As an unabashed fan of everything Martha, I was amused to read that granddaughter Jude calls her “Martha.” I can’t wait to hear what new grandson Truman calls her!

Recently I visited the Smithsonian in Washington DC and spent an afternoon wandering the National Portrait Gallery. I love the Hall of America’s Presidents, and it got me to thinking about the upcoming presidential election. After you read GRAND’s article on the power of voting, I hope you’ll participate in our poll on the presidential candidates.

Best to you and your family!
