I’m sending this brief message of hope and a special wish for safety to our relatives and friends in all locations in the path of Hurricane Sandy.
May all of us find protection and safe-keeping from nature’s forces over the hours and days ahead. May the first responders, those taking care of their immediate neighbors, and those traveling long distances at this time of need, be strong and steadfast in their emergency work.
My fellow Floridians well know the impact of horrific natural disasters, and have welcomed the generous assistance of others in regions far and wide.
As a native of the South Shore of Long Island, I understand how vulnerable our coastal communities are to the ocean’s force.
I hope our leaders’ warnings and instructions will be heeded and that every person who is able to will respond with wisdom and foresight.
And wouldn’t it be wonderful if the virulent animosity of this final week of the political election season would take a breather for an investment of time in advocating for the greater good of us all.
After the full impact of the storm is known, may we find it in our hearts to share some measure of our personal resources with those whose lives and quality of life are harmed.
If you are a praying person, please pray for the well-being of our sisters and brothers of every age and stage of life…and resolve to follow the scriptural guidance to love our neighbors as ourselves.
