GRAND Magazine Salutes the
2013 Electrical & Fire Safety Student Contest Winners
Timothy P. Colbert, a fifth-grade student of PalenciaElementary School in St. Augustine, Florida, is the 2013 National Grand Prize Winner of the Electrical Fire and Safety student contest, sponsored by Electrical Safety Foundation International (EFSI), as featured in the May/June issue of GRAND. Tim will enjoy his grand prize — an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. — accompanied by his mother, Julie, and older brother, William.
Tim’s winning entry on how to promote electrical and fire safety at home and in the community was to produce a musical video with lyrics he wrote set to a popular Pointer Sisters sound track. Tim suggested showing his message-driven video in classrooms at schools throughout the country, as a pubic service announcement on TV and at movie theaters prior to featured films, and on YouTube.
Included in Tim’s entry were the lyrics to his electrical and fire safety musical video. He went on to stress that the music video would have to be entertaining in order to capture everyone’s attention, especially kids and grandparents. Tim even offered to produce the video in his own living room with his father’s iPhone video camera!
