By Laura  Nikolovska

The holidays are a time for joy and laughter, full of family, food, and fun. Kids In Danger (KID) wants to keep these traditions alive for every family by ensuring grandkids are kept safe over the holiday season and all the rest of the time too. To ensure you and your family get through the season safety, KID has compiled safety tips for traveling and shopping. While traveling and celebrating, keep these tips in mind:

  • Always use an appropriate infant or booster car seat when traveling – in your car, grandma’s car, rental or taxi. Check to make sure the seat hasn’t been recalled. Review these car seat safety tips.
  • Make sure your baby has a safe place to sleep both at home and on the road. Review KID’s overview of safe sleep environments here. and check out these safe sleep tips.
  • As toys are unwrapped, make sure younger chrilden don’t get ahold of inappropriate toys that might have small parts or magnets that can be dangerous if ingested. A good guideline to remember: If a toy part fits into a toilet paper tube, it’s too small for young children.

When shopping for gifts for children, KID recommends that parents:

  • Use KID’s Holiday Shopping Safety Tips filled with children’s product safety shopping tips to make informed buying decisions this holiday season.
  • Check products for recalls and report all unsafe children’s products and related injuries to Saferproducts.gov.
  • Follow age recommendations and safety warnings,
  • Access information about recalled products on the go through KID’s mobile site. Our robust search function makes it easy for parents to check for recalled items as they shop.

KID urges you to keep in mind these vital safety and shopping tips not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year. Visit  KidsInDanger.org for more information, to sign up for e –alerts, and find out how you can become a child product safety advocate to help keep all children safe from dangerous products.
