What a concept: Speed dating for 70- to 90-year-old singles! “The Age of Love” held its Southern California premiere at the 2014 Newport Beach Film Festival, and is a fun, entertaining and sensitive social documentary of our times. The film allows a peek inside the journey of a small group of adventurous seniors in Rochester, NY who enroll in a first-of-its-kind speed dating event.
“The great secret old people share is that your body changes, but you don’t change at all” – this quote by Doris Lessing, the oldest writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, is an ideal backdrop message for this insightful documentary story.
“The Age of Love” focuses on the experiences of senior dating and what happens afterward. Through the eyes of an audacious group, we see it all: The hopes, desires, anticipation and sometimes that can occur when on the dating scene.
The film features some enjoyable and compassionate characters — ones you won’t easily orget, including: Lou Morgantithe 81-year-old champion senior body builder; Addie DeCarlo the attractive, wild woman; Janice Ledtke and Jon Freckleton the couple that foster feelings of empathy and comedic relief. Watching each person emotionally and physically prepare for the speed dating event, the film opens the window into the personal lifestyles of the single senior seeking love.
This well told story is one that I’d like my 21-year-old grandson to watch. The tender and sometimes problematic message of the search for love should not be confined solely on the target audience of this film.” The Age Of Love” sheds a spotlight on what happens when you open your heart for love – at any age.
Listen to the interview with the director Steven Loring, and learn how the film came to be and the lessons he learned about love.
