Are you staying up to date on the 2014 World Cup? According to the PEW Reach Center’s most recent article about the topic, 94.5 million people in the U.S. — about 31% of the population — watched at least 20 consecutive minutes of the 2010 World Cup Soccer, and the 2014 numbers are already climbing. With budding soccer stars for grandchildren, I know they are among that viewership, which is why when the documentary We Must Go stood out to me.

We Must Go is a feature documentary chronicling the journey of the Egyptian National Soccer team and coach Bob Bradley as they fight to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup Soccer. Egypt has one of the richest football histories in all of Africa, but despite its continental success, the team hasn’t reached soccer’s ultimate stage in 24 years. Now, the Pharaohs and their American coach, as unlikely a pairing as there ever was, have the chance to do more than realize their shared dream of World Cup qualification––they can unite a bitterly divided nation.
This documentary struck me for its interesting story about the struggles of Egypt’s National soccer team, the Pharaohs, and the Egyptian revolution that erupted three years ago. It’s a great educational tool for the grandkids in bringing attention to this part of modern history — and it’s especially pertinent with the global attention surrounding the World Cup.

Chad Walker – Director, Producer and Editor Chad’s skills as a director were born out of ten years of editing everything from big budget Hollywood features to small, indie passion projects. He moves behind the camera on CPP’s docs and commercial shoots, pulling double–‐duty as director and editor. Chad honed his skills in the world of animation, helping edit blockbusters like Rio, Horton Hears a Who, Epic and films from the Ice Age franchise for Blue Sky Studios.
