On May 1 2015, Grand Magazine published an article titled, “Why Being a Grandmother Isn’t Enough.” The gist of the story is that grandkids don’t only need hugs from their grandparents but also their wisdom that can act as a moral compass in life.
One way that grandparents can impart wisdom on their grandkids is through “Attachment Parenting.” It is a theory in developmental psychology that speaks about the strong emotional bond of kids with their caregivers or people of influence during childhood. Attachment parenting is viewed as the best way to raise secure and independent children.
Kids are like blank canvasses that get influenced overtime by the people who paint images in their lives. These “images” that they carry inside consists of the positive and negative characteristics of the people whom they see as guardians. It is those whose grandchildren are in high-risk situations, such as broken families, who can really make a difference to a child’s life. According to studies, the protective role of grandparents is the best way to offset a child’s negative experiences with problematic parents.
The great thing about attachment parenting is that it benefits both parties. It is advantageous to both the kid and the guardian because every interaction on a personal level literally shapes how people think. The more important the relationship, the more profound the effect on the human brain. This is why grandparents are always happy to see their grandkids. Numerous studies and articles say that happy toddlers make seniors feel young, content, and at peace.
Seniors who want to experience happiness through attachment parenting can feel it not only from young people whom they’re biologically connected to but from complete strangers as well. Being involved in charitable institutions that help underprivileged kids can replicate the effects of attachment parenting. Seniors who don’t have grandkids can experience what it’s like to be grandparents by sponsoring kids who aren’t lucky enough to enjoy the benefits of living in peaceful countries.
Relationships between parents don’t usually work out and that’s where good grandparents come in. Children should never suffer from the negativities that couple fights bring and should always find peace and guidance in the home of their grandparents.
