Do You Know The Simple Meditation Method?

We grands are busy every minute…perhaps too busy? Being busy all the time is stressful so we need to find ways to take mini-mindful vacations.  Our friend, Jeff Cannon of The Simple Truth Project has some simple and effective ways to help us chill.

By Jeff Cannon – Founder/Managing Director, The Simple Truth Project

Some find meditation while peering through the lens of a camera.  Others find it while putting pen to paper or while wandering the country feeling the crush of the soil beneath their feet.  What is even more important is that the things that once brought you a sense of mindful stillness years ago may no longer have the same effect on your life today.

Either way, it is okay. The worst thing you can do is chase after the joys of others or the pleasures of your youth. It is why we say, live in the here and now. For this moment is where life lies.

Regardless of where you find your meditation let go of feeling that it is not the right one.  There is no right or wrong place for you to find your calm, or your meditation.  You see meditation was never meant to be something you did over here, while you lived your life over there. It was not designed to be separate from your life.  It was always meant to be a part of life.

Far too many people get lost in the idea that a formal seated meditation is the only way to meditate.  It’s not.  A seated meditation is simply a way to practice how to meditate.  It is a way to prepare yourself so that you can bring the calm and balance you want into your life whenever and wherever you want it more quickly and more easily without disrupting your life.

It is why we call meditation a practice, because that is what it is.  It is practice for how to live in the moment. The outcome of which you can use on your terms, in your way, while doing whatever it is that brings you a sense of calm pleasure.

For an artist those moments often end up on film or on a canvas.  For a business owner those moments are captured in the feeling of a job well done.  For a parent it can be found in the pride and joy of seeing a child or grandchild maturing with integrity and character.  No one path is better than any other.  They are simply different routes to the same destination.

So do not worry if you do not fit into someone else’s idea of what meditation should look like.  Do not worry about reading scripture or following someone else’s rituals.  When you find something that you can lose yourself in, know that you have found your meditation.  Give yourself permission to get lost in it.

Let yourself go completely by placing all of your awareness on that one thing, because that one thing will lead you down a path that is simple and pure and authentically you.  It is a path that will lead you to moments of clarity and enlightenment.  And isn’t that what you are looking for?
