St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The area around Redemptorist Catholic Church where the Parade starts was traditionally called Kerry Patch in the 1800s after the large Irish immigrant population living there. Many of the stone buildings in the neighborhood were built by Irish with limestone quarried by Irish in the Penn Valley Park area.

Hibernian St Patrick’s Day Parade

The Ancient Order of Hibernians Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, kicks off at 12:30 p.m. It starts at the Tamm Avenue overpass at Oakland Avenue and travels south on Tamm Avenue, past historic St. James the Greater Catholic Church ending at Manchester. The parade is held annually on the saint’s feast day, honors Irish heritage, culture and faith and highlights the many contributions of the Irish people to America. There are over 100 units in this year’s parade and many St. Louis Irish will be marching as clans under their family crests and banners. The 2014 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade’s Grand Marshal is cartoonist Mike Peters, who grew up in St. Louis’s Dogtown neighborhood. Peters draws the long- running comic strip Mother Goose and Grimm, that appears daily in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Hot Springs World’s Shortest Saint Patrick’s Day Parade

Since 2004. Always referred to as “The First ever” every year since it has taken place, this is a fun event. There’ll be leprechauns, quirky floats, marching bands and Irish Elvis impersonators. Activities take place from 11am-9pm with the parade at 6:30pm. Come see this annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade and festivities for the little bit of Irish in all of us. Bridge Street became famous in the 1940’s when Ripley’s Believe It or Not designated it “The Shortest Street in the World.” Having earned this distinction, the Hot Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau deemed Bridge Street the most logical location for this novel parade. The parade route is 98 feet of Bridge Street.
