Are you tired of being tired all the time? Your adrenal glands may be the culprit
By Prudence Hall, M.D. – The Hall Center, Santa Monica
Are you tired of being tired all the time? According to the Center for Disease Control, chronic fatigue is a devastating and complex disorder that can greatly impair our activity level, mood and more.
Feeling tired all the time is a complaint I hear over and over again from many new clients in my medical practice. Other related complaints about fatigue that I hear include a low threshold for stress, feelings of anxiety, apathy, irritability and trouble getting up in the morning despite a full night’s sleep.
Chronic fatigue, which is most commonly linked to stress, is a complex condition. One of its principal causes has to do with adrenal function and is often overlooked by many medical professionals.
The adrenal gland controls the body’s fight or flight response. When the body is under chronic stress, the adrenal gland goes into overdrive, producing excess cortisol, which decreases the production of other essential hormones including DHEA, estrogen, and testosterone. In turn, this renders the body incapable of responding to stress and results in a loss of energy and motivation as well as impaired cognitive function and performance – a condition referred to as adrenal fatigue.
By restoring adrenal function, doctors can also restore energy and optimal functioning for patients. In my mindful medical practice at The Hall Center, I take a more 360-degree approach by evaluating each client as a whole to uncover and successfully treat the root causes of fatigue and stress.
When poor adrenal function is the culprit, I do not treat the condition with prescription drugs. Rather, I perform extensive blood analysis to determine the levels of key hormones in the body in order to treat with natural supplements that contain vitamins, adaptogenic herbs and bio-identical hormones. I may also recommend some appropriate lifestyle changes to help clients lower stress levels.

In my 30 years of practice with over 30,000 patients, I have found this all-natural approach to be highly effective.
