Gain Independence One Fingernail at a Time.
We’re going to tell you a story about two amazing grandparents, whose very different, and often difficult lives intersected in one opportune moment.
In 2008, Kathi Holmes, suddenly collapsed in her bedroom doorway and was incapacitated from her waist down. The doctors told her she would never walk again. Devastated and now confined to a wheelchair, she lost a huge piece of her independence. A few years later, as she watched her one-year-old granddaughter learn to walk by putting one little foot in front of the other, Kathi boldly decided that she would follow her in granddaughter’s literal footsteps and learn to walk again.
Tom noticed that if you had vision problems or any number of disabilities, clipping your fingernails could be next to impossible.
Many years prior, Tom McMullen Jr., watched his wife and the love of his life enter a stage of declining health. Powerless to stop it, Tom funneled his energy into creating workarounds designed to make her life easier. This led Tom to start thinking about other people’s challenges and how they were under served with solutions. He noticed that if you had vision loss, MS, arthritis, limb difference, or any other number of disabilities, clipping your fingernails could be next to impossible. And thus began Tom’s journey to create an automatic fingernail trimmer that would allow people of all abilities to do it for themselves.

Fast forward to 2017 and Kathi Holmes had stared paralysis down and victoriously regained her ability to walk. She had a new lease on life and was living it to the fullest. But a new problem emerged: painful arthritis in her hands. Kathi knew that arthritis at her age was a common issue and she approached it the same way she approached her disability: you do the best with what you have. One thing that become more difficult, however, was how to trim her fingernails. This all changed when she met Tom McMullen Jr.
Tom and his son TJ were sitting a restaurant looking over the new prototype of their automatic fingernail clipper when they struck up a friendly conversation with a table of nearby ladies. They were all very impressed by this amazing new product, but no one more than Kathi Holmes. They quickly struck up a fast friendship and she’s now one of ClipDifferent’s biggest advocates.
The ClipDifferent Pro isn’t going to save lives, but it does offer renewed independence, and for those among us who’ve been around a while, that’s plenty reason enough.
Tom invented the ClipDifferent Pro for people exactly like Kathi. Those of us who struggle with dexterity, strength, vision loss, arthritis, neurological issues, and a whole host of other challenges that seniors face. Clipping fingernails seems like such a trivial task, that is, until you lose the ability to do it for yourself.
The ClipDifferent Pro is incredibly elegant in its design. You simply press a button on the top, insert your fingernail, and it trims your nail effortlessly, safely, and gently. It’s rechargeable, portable, and even has a little drawer that catches your nail clippings (goodbye random nail trimmings flying everywhere!). The ClipDifferent Pro isn’t going to save lives, but it does offer renewed independence, and for those among us who’ve been around a while, that’s plenty reason enough.
