Author/Illustrator: David “Habbenink” Habben
Age range: 4-8
Reviewer: Jeanette Perkins aka Beeba
You know you are having a bad day when you wake up with a rain cloud over your head. The rainy cloud follows Mr. Sherman and only seems to be ruining his day. Others take it in stride. He encounters some kids who cheer and thank him for all the rain to float their pirate boat. Slowly Mr. Sherman starts to notice all the wonderful things the rain is doing in his neighborhood. His mood begins to improve – it is going to be a great day.
“Maybe I just needed a little bit of a storm to help me see the sunshine”
This book shows that your perspective on life can change how your world appears. An unexpected encounter can change your outlook from pessimism to optimism. Look for the silver lining in your cloud.
The expressive graphic art creates an eye-catching and meaningful story. Kids can relate to Mr. Sherman’s woes and feel uplifted when reminded that the sun does eventually come out again after the rain.
