The ABCs of Learning Issues is a wonderful resource for parents or guardians of children with identified learning issues. The first section covers twenty four learning issues. These include Executive Functioning Skills, Listening Comprehension and Visual Problem Solving. Each issue is covered in depth – clinical definition, educator’s definition, behaviors parents may observe, professionals who can treat the issue, school teaching strategies and strategies that can help at home.
A valuable tool
Bridges the home-school gap
Captures how parents and teachers can work together
The next section covers thirteen topics in education such as Preparing for Special Education Meetings, Adapting Homes for Learning Disabled Children, School Suspensions and When Children Are at a Career or Vocational Crossroad. The final section contains practical resources such as sample letters to request an evaluation, a glossary of terms and organizations and community resources.
This book arms parents with the information they need to understand their child’s learning issue and actions that they can take at home and school to maximize their child’s educational success. Parents will better understand the terms that are thrown around during evaluations and be armed with questions to ask during meetings with educators. Better informed parents are empowered to advocate for their child as they learn to speak the same language as the teachers.
This book is a super resource for anyone whose child has learning issues. It is well organized, easy to understand and chocked full of useful information.
