Chicken Soup for the Soul series has over 250 titles for everyone and every situation. Now there is a Chicken Soup book just for grandparents. Who can forget the moment they found out they were going to have a grandchild? It changes you forever. We all have our favorite stories about adventures with our grands. Here is a collection of 101 stories written by grandparents and grandchildren.
The book is divided into ten chapters. The themes include The Joy of Becoming a Grandparent, Through the Eyes of a Child, Play Dates and Modern Grandparenting. Some of selections will make you laugh, some will make you cry and many will remind you of your own experiences with your grands. Among my favorites was “Closet Gate” about what happens when two little girls, a container of baby powder and a few bottles of nail polish end up in Grandma and Grandpa’s walk-in closet. And then there was “Wild Card”. This is the hilarious account of the friendly rivalry between two sets of grandparents told in football terms. There is talk of the home feel advantage (living close to the grands) and a quarterback sneak (buying American Girl dolls).
There is a brief paragraph in the back on each contributor. There is also a page inviting you to submit your own “Chicken Soup” story for a future publication. Here is a feel good book about being a grandparent. Treat yourself today.
