Ending Disease film review for GRAND MAGAZINE
By Pat Burns
Ending Disease is an important film featuring scientists, doctors, and lawmakers who are committed to working towards a cure using stem cell therapies for a variety of debilitating illnesses and injuries. This is a breakthrough film presenting modern science with raw emotion.
Although the science perspective of the film is informative and interesting, at the film’s heart are the stories of 10 families dealing with unforeseen, disheartening circumstances which customarily have no hope of overcoming. This extraordinary film follows these ten patients using stem cell and CAR T therapy and is a deeply personal look into their lives before, after, and during their treatment trials.
If you have a family member, or you yourself, have debilitating illnesses or injuries such as cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, HIV/AIDS, paralysis, and blindness then this film will give you hope.
Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Joe Gantz has been recognized for his acts of truth-telling that protect the public interest and a more just vision of society. As the director of this documentary Joe afforded enormous effort in presenting the stories which shared the struggles and a true sense of what the families went through. He also showed a spotlight on the commitment of the patient’s doctors to turn their hopes into realities.
If you have a family member, or you yourself, have debilitating illnesses or injuries such as cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, HIV/AIDS, paralysis, and blindness then this film will give you hope.
Ending Disease is a timely documentary that is available for viewing on virtual cinemas. When watching the four-part documentary, prepare yourself for long viewing. The full-length feature’s run time is 122 minutes. It also can be viewed as four 45-minutes episodic series.
