Kaboom! Celebrating Independence Day in Style
BY PAT BURNS
Celebrating the 4th of July is one of the summer’s utmost fun times. In 2020, extravagant fireworks and neighborhood parades were few and far between. Let’s celebrate our county’s independence this 4th of July and also our independence from lockdown. It’s 2021 and we’re bringing back the freedom, festivities, and fun!
Everywhere at my house Independence Day is RED, WHITE & BLUE. With plenty of patriotic decorations available, anyone can create tablescapes worthy of entertaining family and friends.
If you’ve read my other articles, then you may recall I begin with the centerpiece. When I found the sphere-shaped, Americana Starburst LED lights in a catalog, I had to give it a try. The lights were strung together and required electricity. This presented a little challenge. Fortunately, I was able to craft a solution. Each separate light was set inside a small flower vase. Tying a ribbon around the vase secured the electric cord. Because the lights were top-heavy each vase needed to be weighted down to prevent them from tipping over. Red, white and blue jelly beans provided just enough weight to keep them upright. When the lights are lit and bursting with color, it looks fantastic.
Finishing the table with star-spangled knickknacks, patriotic plates, and fanned-out 1776 napkins held together with red bicycle napkin rings, my face naturally lights up with a huge smile.
All that’s left now is bringing everyone together, serving your favorite holiday meal, and enjoying the traditional array of Americana desserts like juicy watermelon, strawberry shortcake, and apple pie a la mode.
Afterward, we head outdoors for the grand finale – the nearest fireworks the continue our celebration of Independence Day — the end to an exceptional day! Oh. One more thing: remember to pack the bug spray!
