How To E.N.R.I.C.H. Your Parenting

Looking for an easy-to-use, straight-forward parenting book?  Look no further!  The newly-released book, E.N.R.I.C.H. Your Relationship With Your Child, by author and grandparent Debbie Farr, Ph.D., is now available on Amazon in paperback and eBook formats.  Dr. Debbie’s research-based parenting book focuses on 14 positive strategies for parenting (and grandparenting), from encouragement to incorporating the negatives, and involvement to humor.

“I loved all the stories that made it easier to understand the concepts and made me laugh at the same time. I think my favorite parts were the places where I could think about how the information applied to my own family.”

Dr. Debbie’s book pulls from family science and positive psychology research and combines it with examples and opportunities for reader practice.  The book is suitable for parents, parents-to-be, grandparents, and anyone who works with parents.

PARENTINGHaving worked with children and families for over 30 years, Dr. Debbie’s experience and training were a springboard for the book.  After several iterations of the acronym, she landed on “E.N.R.I.C.H.” which stands for encouragement, empathy, naming emotions, negatives, respect, redirection, reasoning, identity, involvement, communication, consequences, humor, health, and happiness.   Grounded in family science techniques, positive parenting practices, and positive psychology, 14 strategies are clearly described, using research-based information.  But unlike other parenting books, Dr. Debbie gives readers detailed examples (including actual script) of each strategy as well as opportunities for self-reflection at the end of each section.  Readers have stated, “I loved all the stories that made it easier to understand the concepts and made me laugh at the same time. I think my favorite parts were the places where I could think about how the information applied to my own family.”  Another reader said, “this book  helped me reflect on simple things I can do in my parenting practice to strengthen my bond with my child.”  And, “Dr. Debbie covers so much in a way that is easy to digest.”

The book concludes with a brief developmental chart and additional examples of the 14 strategies.

As she was finishing the book, various traumas were affecting families – COVID, hurricanes, wildfires, gun violence, racism, etc.  Having solid parenting strategies at the ready is important but Dr. Debbie took it a step further and included a chapter on keys to resilience in crisis.  She also included a section on self-compassion to help give parents and caregivers a boost in confidence.  The book concludes with a brief developmental chart and additional examples of the 14 strategies.
