Why We Must Pay Attention To Politics

I’m a baby boomer, so I grew up with the social mandate that you never talked about politics or religion. It was impolite, rude, or downright mean-spirited to do so. My grandmother would call that hogwash! So, in our family, we were never hogtied (another hog reference?) from voicing our interest in world affairs and questioning what was being done and why. She believed in free speech and that knowing how our country and the world were being managed was necessary to be a responsible world citizen.

I voted for Joe Biden in 2020, and I’m thankful every day that he is our president, especially after the many disastrous actions of the previous president.

There, I said it….so if you don’t want to hear it or disagree, you have that right in my book. But if you do disagree, I require truth and facts presented, not just cult recitations or other magical thinking.

I believe it’s our job to listen carefully to what politician say, hold them accountable, and have open discussions with others to hear their thoughts and ideas. However, the overriding rule is that we stick to the facts, hardcore, proven facts, not fantasies or cult blather, and keep the Constitution at our core.

By the time we are grandparents (average age 52 for first timers) and are mentally stable, we should be thinking of the next generation and the next (our grandkids)  and what we are doing to ensure them a safe, healthy, and happy future.

In case you missed President Joe Biden’s speech this past week, I’ve posted it here and encourage you to take a few minutes and really listen. If we’ve been paying attention, we’ve all heard essential speeches in our lifetimes, from Roosevelt and Kennedy to Churchill and Mandella.

“Please understand I’m not naive to the fact that our government, aka the people, have done atrocious things…”

President Biden’s speech is not just about the war between Israel and Palestine; it is an inspiring voice for the American way. Please understand I’m not naive to the fact that our government, aka the people, have done atrocious things and made huge mistakes, but I believe with people like Joe Biden at the helm, we’re heading in the right direction with freedom, equality, and compassion for all.

Below is the YouTube video. I hope you will watch and share. Of course, if you have a comment or criticism, you can share here.

Back when Joe Biden was vice president, GRAND  had the pleasure of interviewing him about his role as a grandfather.

“When I was growing up, the mothers and fathers in our neighborhoods told us that if we worked hard, played by the rules, and reached for something better, there wasn’t a single thing we could not do.”
