Don’t Be Afraid To Open A New Door

Open the Next Door

Backstory

It’s natural to dislike change, especially when it takes you out of your comfort zone. Changes we face today seem evolutionary and progressive; often frightening. Accommodating change may take a new way to create a password or require elaborate transformation. Flexibility is necessary just to keep pace.

Open the Next Door

When one door closes, another one opens. I truly believe that and have seen it come true so many times. I’m at the point now where I can hardly wait to find out what will be around the next corner. Blessing, challenge, demand, new person to make a change in my life; it’s all an adventure to be cherished and enjoyed.

There’s a country song that “thank God for unanswered prayers.” We are SO SURE that we know exactly what is right for us: the right companion, the right job, the right family size. Then the universe comes along with its own ideas – and we find that they are so much better than what we had in mind.

doorMy beloved husband once told me a secret. He said, “I really wanted to have someone special in my life. I knew what she would look like and sound like, and I told God all about it and asked him to send her to me.

Instead of sending me who I wanted, God sent me who I needed.”

So when the door closes, don’t get stuck in what you wanted in the past.

Instead, reach out and turn the knob on the next door before you.  Be open to the possibilities and be willing to take a second look.

What you WANT may have escaped. What you NEED might be right before your eyes.

P.S.   There is strength in believing that all things happen for a reason.  Sometimes, we discover the reason; sometimes, we just have to go with the flow.  In either case, a kind and gentle approach will usually orchestrate the best outcome.

ABOUT CONSIDER THIS

The radio show Consider This with Annette Petrick Is broadcast several times a day.  I’ve been writing and recording the shows for the last 15 years. It’s a minute-and-a-half-long story about life, love, and making a difference.

Stories are popular with busy people like you, who stop by for fast entertainment and assurance of kindness, caring, and smiles.  It’s like getting a shot of inspiration or assurance as you pass by.

To deliver the stories beyond radio range, we gathered up more than 500 episodes and brought them over here to the Internet.

  • Come and read or listen to a story any time you want.
  • Let us deliver a show to you by email every Sunday morning.
  • As you share stories with friends, we create even more smiles.

Stories are about lives where joy, wonder, and happiness exist but are often overlooked.   A true-life story may have an unexpected turn. There may be a lesson, counsel, or opinion.  It could be a reminder, a reminiscence or a rant.  Curiosity shouts to me, “I want to know the story.”  So I write it.

About the author

Author and radio personality Annette E. Petrick has lived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for more than 25 years. That means she is ALMOST accepted as a local. She shares her days between writing and recording her daily radio show and enjoying life in the country with her husband, Bill.

With a career as a nationally recognized public speaker, the essence of her work has always been the spoken or written word. She considered wordsmithing as a God-given gift, which she was expected to use.
She combined those skills into a unique 90 second radio show. Her insightful short stories first went on the air in 2006 and are still broadcast daily. Consider This with Annette Petrick has also become a website, a blog where readers and listeners can comment and leave their opinion, an iTune favorite and a weekly inspirational email to subscribers.
