How Can You Keep Everyday Life Feeling Full and Enjoyable with Age?

life

Well, a lot of people talk about getting older like the goal is to stay endlessly busy, so nobody has time to notice they’re getting older in the first place. And bluntly put, here that sounds exhausting. But yeah, nowadays being really busy is glorified.

But everyday life really doesn’t need to be packed with activities from sunrise to sunset to still feel good. You don’t need to constantly be social 24/7 in order to beat social isolation. Instead, you just need to feel life’s worth living. That’s really it. Like, a day can be pretty ordinary and still feel full if it has comfort, connection, a little enjoyment, and enough ease that everything doesn’t feel like hard work for no reason. But how?

It’s the Little Things that Usually Decide How a Day Feels

Alright, so, this is probably the biggest part of it, because everyday life is made up of smaller things way more than big exciting ones. How so? Well, it’s the morning coffee, hearing somebody laugh,  it’s a phone call that doesn’t feel like effort. But you get the entire point here, it’s about comfort, things you like, but being comfortable physically speaking, in your home, and in your pace of life.

And it makes sense that eventually things get a little harder in life, like hearing conversations in a busy cafe, feeling stiff from time to time, or even just tired. But with all of that said here, adapting doesn’t always mean something isn’t affecting quality of life. Sometimes it just means someone’s gotten very good at working around it.

It’s Really All About Staying Connected

Now, with that part said, the connection really does change everything. So, a person can have a nice house, a decent routine, and plenty of things technically available to do, but if conversations start feeling frustrating or social situations start feeling like too much effort, life can get smaller without anybody meaning for that to happen. Humans are social creatures; you need to remember that.

Which is exactly why staying connected matters so much. It can’t be stressed enough, especially if you’re an elder, so feeling included helps. Feeling like it’s still easy enough to keep up helps. So if you’ve noticed you’re struggling with your hearing, or at least you’re starting to withdraw socially due to declining confidence, then you might want to keep in mind here that there’s a connection between quality of life and hearing tests, and so just seeing an audiologist could make a big difference here.

Comfort isn’t a Small Thing

And why should it be considered that in the first place? Well, it was briefly mentioned earlier already, but people act like comfort is some extra little bonus when really it shapes the whole feel of a day. If the room’s too dim, the chair hurts the back, sleep’s off, or getting around feels harder than it should, the day starts feeling heavier before it’s even properly started.

Which is obvious. You can’t have a high quality of life if you’re constantly uncomfortable. No, you can’t “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” either; it doesn’t work like that, especially if you’re just trying to age well here.
